PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - An executive session was held at City Hall Wednesday, where city leaders discussed the Trail Blazers’ future at the Moda Center.
After sending the Blazers a draft term sheet, city leaders said they have not received a response from the Blazers but the city remains serious about getting this deal done.
According to Council President Jamie Dunphy, the Blazers have not responded in writing or in any meaningful way to the city’s draft term sheet sent last week for a 20-year lease.
“It’s been really hard for us to negotiate at all because the Blazers are simply not showing up. And it’s led to a lot of confusion and a lot of narrative in the public that the city is in somehow disarray. It’s because we’re negotiating against nothing,” said Dunphy.
Dunphy said the city is very serious about making a deal but it needs to be a good one.
The draft term sheet includes a public investment of $573 million to renovate the Moda Center and Dunphy said he wants to know from the organization what the city is getting from that investment.
“We have no additional information to actually meaningfully put forward. Last week we put forward a draft term sheet that was the best that we could possibly come up with knowing that all of the exhibit A was completely blank. So the city has been entirely serious about this from the beginning. And the Blazers just continue to not respond to any of our requests for information or show up when we are actually asking them to negotiate in good faith,” said Dunphy.
On Thursday, Multnomah County Commissioners will decide on a resolution for its investment in the Moda Center — and next week, the city will have a work session on the issue and the Blazers organizations has been invited.
FOX 12 reached out to the Blazers on Wednesday, but have not heard back.
