Hawkins' role declined after promising start
Hawkins was selected by New Orleans with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft after two seasons at UConn.
The shooting guard broke out as a sophomore, averaging 16.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists while making 38.8% of his 3-pointers and helping the Huskies capture the 2023 NCAA championship.
He averaged 7.8 points and 2.2 rebounds across 67 games during his rookie NBA campaign before increasing his production to 10.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 2024-25.
However, Hawkins' role declined significantly last season. He averaged 5.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 13.6 minutes over 51 appearances, shooting 36.6% from the field and 34.8% from three-point range.
The 24-year-old has appeared in 174 NBA games, all with the Pelicans, averaging 8.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per contest.
