Miles Bridges, for the first time since his trade from the Hornets to the Suns, sat down with Phoenix’s general manager, Brian Gregory, for his introductory press conference.
Bridges’ opening remarks addressed his true feelings about heading to the Suns after spending all of his career in Charlotte with the Hornets.
“First of all, I want to thank the Suns organization, you know, for giving me a chance, Matt, BG, Josh, and Coach Ott. I also want to thank the Hornets, you know, for giving me a chance to be a part of their team and giving me a second chance.”
“I’m excited to be here. I feel like I’m going to be a great fit. I’m excited to play with Book, Jalen, Dillon, and the younger guys, too, as well. You know, I watched a lot of summer league games, and I played against them last year, and I’m very excited to play with them,” Bridges said initially.
“I know it’s going to be like BG said: it’s mixed feelings about me being here. But, you know, I take full responsibility, you know, for my actions. You know, I’ve been to counseling, I’ve been to therapy.”
“And right now I’m just prioritizing, just like BG said, just being better as a man every day, on and off the court, mainly off the court. And just being a great father and earning the trust of this fan base and this community. I can’t wait to get started, but yeah, I’m very excited,” concluded Bridges.
Miles Bridges has been subject to a lot of scrutiny from the media after multiple controversial incidents in his domestic life, which included charges of domestic violence in November 2022, to which he pleaded ‘no contest’ in court.
Consequently, he got three years of probation, parenting classes, weekly-basis domestic violence counseling, and a 10-year protective order. And even the NBA suspended him for 30 games without pay in April 2023.
And while Bridges is still battling with the troubling situation at home (engaged in a custody battle with his ex-girlfriend, Mychelle Johnson, who allegedly tried to run him over with a golf cart), his words seem to provide reassurance to fans that his personal life will not impact his performance on the court.
Bridges was a consistent 20-point scorer for the Hornets when he bounced back from these penalties until last season, as he became the fourth offensive option after Kon Knueppel was drafted (behind Brandon Miller and LaMelo Ball).
He ended the 2025-26 season averaging 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 46.0% from the field and 33.3% from behind the three-point line.
But with the Suns, he is also the fourth option in scoring (behind Devin Booker, Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks). So it doesn’t seem to me that this situation is any better for him to improve his individual game.
