Recently departed Burnley goalkeeper handed trial with Man City
Recently departed Burnley academy prospect Charlie Casper has earned a surprise trial with Manchester City.
That’s according to transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke, who reports the Premier League giants are taking a look at the goalkeeper following his recent exit from Turf Moor.
The 21-year-old is a free agent after leaving the Clarets after his contract expired at the end of last season - but few expected him to rock up at the home of the former Premier League champions.
The Rossendale-based stopper had been with Burnley’s academy since the age of 11 and enjoyed time out on loan with Grimsby Town and Alfreton Town last season.
He made his competitive debut with the Mariners in October 2025 during an EFL Trophy game, before making a further two appearances. He then turned out 15 times for Alfreton during the second half of the season.
He’s the son of Burnley’s academy chief Chris Casper and the grandson of Frank, one of the club’s finest strikers, who scored 89 times in 275 games for the Clarets during the 1960s and 1970s.
“After 10 years at the club, my time has come to an end,” Casper wrote on his Instagram page back in May.
“I’ve met some great people along the way and made incredible memories. Winning the league at Ewood and celebrating on the pitch with the team is something I’ll never forget as a Burnley fan.
“I’ll forever be grateful for the club giving me the opportunity to live out a dream and making me into the person I am today. I wish everyone at the club the very best for the future.”
