Liverpool have been given two fresh boosts in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola, according to a new claim from Fabrizio Romano.
The Reds are preparing for their first game of pre-season under Andoni Iraola against Sunderland on Saturday, but the Spaniard has also been answering questions about transfers, saying:
“I think it’s difficult to say a number when the market is open, and you have to be always open to new options to improve the squad. There are obvious situations that we know where we need to sign players. A winger, for example – we definitely need to sign a winger.
“But there are other situations that we will have to analyse what the market gives you, what’s the cost, how we also see the players we have. We have some tricky positions where we have injured players that we trust but is still not the ideal situation. So, it will depend on a lot of things.”
Writing on X on Thursday morning, Romano dropped the latest on the Barcola to Liverpool situation, with the Reds boosted for two key reasons:
“Understand Liverpool remain the club showing most concrete interest in Bradley Barcola. No truth in Barça links, LFCdeal depends on conditions for the exit as price will be set by PSG. No talks over new contract so far.”
Liverpool must avoid late Bradley Barcola twist
At this point, it would be a surprise if Liverpool didn’t complete the signing of Barcola, but they have been in this situation plenty of times before, only to miss out on a key target.
The Frenchman is exactly what the Reds need, following a lack of pace out wide throughout last season from Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo, and he is a proven Champions League winner.
The threat of Arsenal is clearly great, given their status as reigning Premier League champions, but the fact that Barcelona are reportedly out of the equation is a boost, as is Barcola not holding talks over a new PSG deal.
It’s now a case of Liverpool getting a deal over the line and also preferably signing another winger, giving their attack a very different look and getting the best out of record signings Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.
