Jeff Bezos, the world's fourth-richest man and the founder of Amazon, has been linked with a consortium of investors that is in talks to buy a minority stake in Liverpool.

The club's owner, FSG, confirmed talks were underway over the sale of a stake, with a group of investors led by Amit Bhatia discussing a possible deal. Figures suggest that the stake would be 30 percent of the Reds, while the valuation of that stake would value the club at around the $6 billion mark.

Bezos has held talks about the possibility of joining the consortium, in what would be his first investment in sports, following previous interest in taking over some franchises in America that never materialized.

The role of the 62-year-old in any prospective deal has been largely up for speculation, considering that the deal is being led by Bhatia at this stage.

However, it's one that is seemingly set to give Bezos the lead as the figurehead of the consortium, while the rest push through with the day-to-day involvement of the investors.

According to the Daily Mail, the move would see Bezos become the face of the consortium, in a switch that has been likened to that of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital at Chelsea, who formed Blueco in a takeover back in 2022.

Boehly has been front and center for a lot of the early days at Stamford Bridge, putting a face to the consortium that has led the Blues moving forward.

Bezos may well have a similar impact, having become well-known from his exploits as a businessman, and could well turn up at Anfield in the years to come.

It would mark quite the move from both FSG and the Bhatia-led consortium, as Liverpool looks set to enter another new era in the year ahead.

There is no guarantee that Bezos gets involved, however, with those talks and discussions being held between the group of investors and the Amazon founder at an early stage.

Likewise, the talks between FSG and the consortium are also at a preliminary stage, with such a mammoth deal valuing the club at $6 billion unlikely to see that transfer of a minority stake come about quickly.

As that rumbles in the background, Liverpool's focus will also shift on the field, as preparations step up for the new Premier League season under head coach Andoni Iraola.

The appointment of the manager demonstrates another change in direction, something that has been a common theme for the Reds as a club in recent years, be that on the pitch or off of it.

The investment from elsewhere may well secure FSG's position for the future, but it could also bring about more seismic changes for the club as a whole.
