Wigan Athletic academy product Harrison Bettoni has joined Chelsea on a long-term deal
Harrison Bettoni has leftWigan Athletic to join Premier League giantsChelsea on a long-term contract which runs until 2030.
The 18-year-old, who is a product of Latics’ academy, has officially made the move to Stamford Bridge after months of speculation, with Latics stating in their press release that the two clubs have agreed on a ‘significant fee’ in terms of compensation.
Latics say the highly-rated Bettoni was offered multiple long-term contracts to remain at the Brick Community Stadium, but the lure of moving to the Premier League led to the young forward deciding that his future lay elsewhere.
Bettoni enjoyed a breakthrough season at senior level last term, making 27 appearances in total, scoring three goals while operating as an attacking midfielder and striker.
"As a club, we made every possible effort to retain Harrison,” said Latics’ managing director Sarah Guilfoyle. “We offered Harrison multiple strong and competitive long-term offers to remain at Wigan Athletic, reflecting both the high regard we have for his ability and the importance we saw him having in our future.
"Ultimately, every player reaches a point where they must make a decision they believe is right for their career. Harrison has chosen to pursue a new opportunity, and while we are disappointed not to see him continue his journey with us, we respect his decision.
"We've worked closely with Chelsea to agree a compensation package that reflects the time, care, and investment our academy has put into Harrison's development from a young age. Producing talented young players is something our academy takes immense pride in, and it's important that work is recognised.
"We thank Harrison for everything he has contributed during his time with us and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.”
Bettoni progressed through the youth ranks at Latics, captaining the Under-16s to the Professional Development League Cup for the first time in the club’s history.
Having earned his professional contract in the summer of 2024, Bettoni played in all three of Latics’ EFL Trophy Group Stage fixtures at the start of the 2025/26 season, before bursting onto the League One scene with a dream league debut against AFC Wimbledon, scoring a match-winning double, including a free-kick with his very first touch.
The Tameside-born forward scored further goals in the away victories at Burton Albion and Preston North End, ending the campaign with 27 senior appearances to his name.
Bettoni will now enter the next chapter of his career with Chelsea, having signed a long-term contract with the Blues until 2030.
“The club would like to thank Harrison for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future,” a Latics statement added.
