Andy Burnham has invited fellow Everton fan and Prime Minister Mark Carney to watch a game with him at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium in the future.
Mr Carney adopted Everton as his team after moving to the UK to be Bank of England governor, while Mr Burnham has been an Evertonian all his life and has a season ticket.
The Prime Ministers spoke on Wednesday 22 July about their countries’ "strong and strategic relationship".
A Downing Street spokesperson said: "Prime Minister Carney congratulated the Prime Minister on his appointment, and the leaders discussed the Prime Minister’s strong domestic announcements in recent days to give the British people breathing space from the cost of living.
"The UK and Canada had a strong and strategic relationship, rooted in shared values and outlook on the world, which benefitted people in both countries, the leaders agreed.”
"As fellow Everton fans, the Prime Minister said he hoped to be able to roll out the blue carpet and host Prime Minister Carney at an Everton game in the future,” she added.
The former Greater Manchester Mayor has pledged to lead a "cost-of-living government" during his first Cabinet meeting on Tuesday 21 July.
His policies so far have included cutting VAT on energy bills, capping bus fares at £2, and now the reduction of business rates on pubs, clubs and music venues.
