Journalist rates Liverpool’s chances of completing £58m PSG signing

Liverpool’s rearguard still needs a bit of work as Andoni Iraola aims to dip into the transfer market.

The Spaniard feels the Reds need a few more signings as they are a bit short at the moment, especially with key players missing due to injuries and international commitments.

In recent weeks, PSG defender Illia Zabarnyi has been linked with a move to Liverpool after spending just a solitary season in Paris.

And now, David Lynch feels the Reds stand a realistic chance of signing the Ukrainian as he refused to brush this one off as just another transfer rumour.

Liverpool actually want to sign Illia Zabarnyi

Iraola knows the defender quite well from his time at Bournemouth and the pair worked together for two years at the Vitality Stadium.

Since then, Zabarnyi earned himself a big-money move to PSG for a fee believed to be in the region of £58m. And to be fair to the defender, he fared quite well in the French capital and started 26 Ligue 1 games under Luis Enrique.

However, in the UEFA Champions League, he was behind Willian Pacho and Marquinhos in the pecking order.

PSG’s decision to sell him looks like something they are reluctantly doing to maintain squad harmony, as they don’t want to keep a good player on the bench.

However, that could be Liverpool’s gain, and Lynch feels the situation is expected to develop in the coming weeks.

“It might take a couple of weeks to get going, that one [Zabarnyi to Liverpool link,” said Lynch via Redmen TV.

“But I wouldn’t sit here and rule that one out or say that that’s being dragged up [out of nowhere].”

Zabarnyi has been offered to Chelsea and Liverpool, who could both do well with a central defender.

Iraola knows him quite well and if the fee works out, this could be a deal worth pursuing for the Reds.
