Former NBA star Ty Lawson was arrested in Colorado after allegedly shoplifting a bottle of vodka and later displaying disruptive behavior while in custody.

The incident occurred on July 16 in Castle Rock, Colorado, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by local media.
A store owner contacted police at approximately 8:03 p.m. after allegedly seeing Lawson leave the shop without paying for a $34 bottle of Tito's vodka.
The owner told authorities that Lawson drank from the bottle outside the store before taking it to the nearby restaurant, where he reportedly sat at the bar with it. The owner also claimed Lawson was stumbling and appeared to be intoxicated.
Lawson was subsequently booked into Douglas County Jail and faces a shoplifting charge for theft valued at less than $300.
Affidavit details Lawson's alleged behavior in custody
According to the New York Post, citing the probable cause affidavit, Lawson repeatedly directed insulting language toward an officer, including calling them a "b*tch" and "white b*tch."
The affidavit also alleged that Lawson kicked the glass wall of his holding cell, repeatedly yelled "stop," and spat on the floor.
Lawson reportedly calmed down afterward and apologized for his behavior.
Lawson spent eight seasons in the NBA
The 38-year-old was selected with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft and was immediately traded to the Denver Nuggets.
Lawson spent six seasons in Denver and developed into one of the NBA's most productive point guards, receiving MVP votes during the 2012-13 campaign.
He later represented the Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, and Washington Wizards. His final NBA appearance came with Washington during the 2018 playoffs.
After leaving the NBA, Lawson continued his career overseas, with his most recent professional stint coming in Venezuela in 2023.
