Arsenal keen to sign Barca attacker who just won the World Cup, Madrid centre-back eyed too
Arsenal have discussed signing Barcelona attacker Ferran Torres this summer, according to the Daily Mail. Gunners manager Mikel Arteta wants top forwards at the Emirates Stadium club, and the North Londoners recently announced the signing of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge. Torres, alongside Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams have both emerged in Arsenal’s recent transfer talks. However, the price has to be right for the Gunners to make any concrete move for either of the World Cup winners.
William Saliba’s injury has also left them with no choice but to make centre-back signings this summer. Real Madrid’s Raul Asencio is a name which has been floated to Arsenal. The Spaniard is currently surplus to requirements at Madrid and could look to move on this summer. Asencio made 34 appearances last term and the 23-year-old can also feature at right-back. Arsenal could do with his quality and experience, but it is unknown whether Arteta has plans to bring the Madrid star to London.
Torres has been linked with a move away from Barca, and a return to England could appeal to the former Manchester City forward. The 26-year-old scored the winning and only goal for Spain against Argentina in the final of the World Cup on Sunday. The Gunners target can play on both wings and as a number 9, with his finishing one of his biggest strengths.
