Fans descending on Liverpool for Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour will receive a ‘proper scouse welcome’, with a host of events dedicated to the pop icon.
More than 150,000 Swifties will attend three sold-out performances at Anfield Stadium from Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 June – the first England shows of Taylor's extensive world tour.
Ahead of her arrival, Liverpool will transform into ‘Taylor Town’ from 8 June, the city council has announced.
A trail of 11 art installations, each inspired by a different Taylor Swift album or ‘Era’, will appear across the city, created by Liverpool City Council in partnership with social enterprise Make CIC.
The University of Liverpool will host a free ‘Tay Day’, which it described as a ‘unique symposium for fans, students and academics to engage with the cultural phenomenon that is Taylor Swift’.
The day will culminate in a series of ‘critical karaoke’ sessions, offering academics a unique opportunity to perform their research to Taylor’s songs.
Fans will also be able attend ticketed craft workshops called Liverpool Loves Taylor (Craft Version).
‘Self-confessed Swiftie’ and Liverpool’s cabinet member for health, wellbeing and culture, Harry Doyle, said: ‘If there was ever going to be a city that would go all-out with a welcome for Taylor Swift and the Swifties, it was bound to be Liverpool.’
Kicking off in Edinburgh on 7 June before taking to Liverpool, Cardiff and London, the UK leg of the Eras Tour is expected to provide a £997m boost to the UK economy, according to Barclays’ ‘Swiftonomics’ report.
