Liverpool have officially announced that one of their goalkeepers has signed a new contract at the club
Liverpool have confirmed that goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay after an impressive first season at Anfield.
The announcement comes as the Reds continue preparations for the 2026-27 campaign, with the club rewarding the experienced goalkeeper following a campaign in which he proved to be a dependable option when called upon.

Woodman joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Preston North End in the summer of 2025, arriving to strengthen the club’s goalkeeping department. Although initially signed to provide experienced cover, the 29-year-old made the most of his opportunities during the 2025-26 season and earned the trust of the coaching staff through his performances.
“I’m absolutely delighted, to be honest,” Woodman told Liverpoolfc.com. “Off the back of last season, personally it was amazing for me and then to come back in pre-season and there be an offer for me from the club to stay here longer, I was made up.
“I’m just so happy that I could re-sign here and be a part of this amazing club.”
Liverpool’s decision to hand Woodman a new deal reflects the value he has brought to the squad despite limited playing time. While Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili remained ahead of him in the pecking order for much of the season, Woodman demonstrated his reliability whenever he stepped into the side.
After spending the opening months of his Liverpool career waiting for an opportunity, Woodman made his competitive debut in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace before featuring in the Premier League during the closing weeks of the campaign.
His league debut came as a substitute in Liverpool’s dramatic Merseyside derby victory over Everton after Mamardashvili was forced off through injury. He then made his first Premier League start in the following match against Crystal Palace, producing a performance that earned him the club’s Carlsberg Player of the Match award.
Those displays highlighted the experience Woodman brought to Liverpool’s goalkeeping group. Having previously made 138 appearances for Preston North End and won the Championship club’s Player of the Year award in 2022-23, he arrived at Anfield with extensive senior experience despite spending much of his career outside the Premier League.
Before his move to Merseyside, Woodman came through the academy at Crystal Palace before joining Newcastle United in 2013. During his time on Tyneside he gained experience through loan spells at Hartlepool United, Crawley Town, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, Swansea City and Bournemouth, while also making senior appearances for Newcastle. He later established himself as Preston’s first-choice goalkeeper after signing permanently in 2022.
Woodman also enjoyed success on the international stage during his youth career. He was part of the England squads that won the UEFA European Under-17 Championship in 2014 and the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2017, where he received the Golden Glove award as the tournament’s best goalkeeper.
Liverpool’s decision to extend his contract ensures continuity in a key area of the squad ahead of the new season. The club have retained an experienced home-grown goalkeeper who understands the demands of the role and has already shown he can step into the team when required.
