Liverpool and Newcastle are in talks over a tribute to the legendary late Kevin Keegan when the two sides meet next month.

The former Reds striker sadly passed away on Monday at the age of 75, following a brave battle with cancer.
On August 23, Liverpool and Newcastle open their 2026/27 Premier League account, and plans are in place to remember a legend for both clubs.

The Northern Echo report that officials from the Reds and the Magpies are “holding discussions” over “how best to mark” the occasion at St James’ Park, and a statement from Newcastle says:
“The opening Premier League match of 2026-27 sees Newcastle United hosting Liverpool – where Kevin made 323 appearances between 1971 and 1977.
“To ensure his memory is marked fittingly before the game, the club is in communication with Liverpool and will work closely with supporter groups, including its Fan Advisory Board, the Newcastle United Supporters Trust and Wor Flags, as well as the Premier League, to shape tributes.”
It promises to be an emotional afternoon, as a true great of the game is celebrated.

• Freddie Woodman has signed a new three-year deal with Liverpool, with the goalkeeper saying it is “unbelievable” to continue at Anfield
• Liverpool have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Illia Zabarnyi from Paris Saint-Germain, with Andoni Iraola knowing the defender well from their time at Bournemouth
• Rio Ngumoha is expected to play on both the left and right wings for Liverpool in 2026-27 – he wants to be “unpredictable” under Andoni Iraola
• Amara Nallo is set to spend the campaign with Finnish side HJK Helsinki, with Liverpool agreeing a deal to send him out on loan.
• Liverpool centre-back Mor Talla Ndiaye has joined the Reds’ pre-season tour after being granted a visa to travel to the United States

Joanna Durkan has had a look at Bradley Barcola and assessed whether he is perfect for Liverpool or an expensive risk:
“Iraola’s identity centres around rapid verticality, high physical output, and punishing teams after turnovers.
“Barcola’s ball carrying, pace, and direct threat in open space would fit into Iraola’s system, with the winger ranking in the top 17th percentile for successful dribbles in Ligue 1 (1.85 per 90).
“He also ranked in the top 10th percentile for possession won in the final third (1.18 per 90), and in the top three percent for touches in the opposition box (8.69 per 90).
“Thus, it is not surprising that across all competitions last season, he took the majority of his shots from inside the box (80/105), and predominantly on his right foot.”

On this day in 2025, Liverpool completed the signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for £69 million.
The Frenchman was an immediate hit with his quality and character, and he scored 17 goals in his debut season at Anfield.
Sadly, a serious Achilles injury has struck down Ekitike since April, and plenty more months on the sidelines are expected.
