There are many conflicting reports about what the Los Angeles Lakers might do with the Jonathan Kuminga situation. After signing Matisse Thybulle and Ziaire Williams, it would make sense for the Lakers not to bring in Kuminga.
However, there's still an argument to be made that he's a completely different player than those two guys, which he is, and could still fit what Los Angeles is looking to do.
The question now for the Lakers is whether they have enough assets to get a deal done.
According to the latest report, the Atlanta Hawks plan to move on from him, but they don't have much interest in a sign-and-trade involving multiple players. In fact, Atlanta is only looking for a sign-and-trade that involves draft capital.
“The Hawks have Kuminga’s rights, but they did not pick up his team option this summer and after trading for Lu Dort, appear to have zero interest in bringing back Kuminga. But they have little interest in a sign-and-trade, either, unless there is draft capital involved,” Sean Deveney wrote.
I'd go out on a limb here and say that when the LeBron James situation gets figured out, we could see an answer on Kuminga.
However, for now, the Lakers really don't have much reason to move draft capital for a player of his caliber. Unless that just means some second-round picks, not like the Lakers have any more than that, but I really don't think moving on from players and some picks is something that should happen right now.
