Son of ex-Super Eagles LB impresses Chelsea boss, named in squad for Australia tour

Landon Emenalo, the son of former Nigeria international left-back Michael Emenalo, has been rewarded with a call-up to Chelsea's squad for their pre-season tour of Australia.

According to Chelsea insider and BBC reporter Nizaar Kinsella, the tri-national defender is expected to travel with the squad to Australia on Friday.

Manager Xabi Alonso has handed Emenalo a first team call-up for the Australia tour after the youngster impressed throughout the opening weeks of pre-season training.

The American-English-Nigerian full-back started both of Chelsea's behind-closed-doors friendly victories over Crawley Town and Bromley, playing a key role in back-to-back wins.

During their tour of Australia, Chelsea will face Western Sydney Wanderers on Tuesday, July 28, before taking on Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, August 1, with both matches scheduled to be played at Accor Stadium in Sydney.

Emenalo is yet to make his senior debut for Chelsea, although he has been included in the matchday squad for three competitive fixtures.

The 18-year-old was an unused substitute against Legia Warsaw in the UEFA Conference League in April 2025.

He also remained on the bench for Premier League and Champions League matches against Liverpool and Pafos respectively.

Last season, Emenalo featured for Chelsea across the Premier League 2, U18 Premier League, UEFA Youth League, FA Youth Cup, EFL Trophy and Premier League International Cup.
