The Dallas Mavericks' star guard Kyrie Irving is entering the final guaranteed season of his contract with the franchise. Meanwhile, speculation has emerged about a possible reunion with LeBron James in Cleveland.

Throughout his career, the four-time champion has rarely committed to a new team without first believing it had a legitimate championship blueprint in place. This offseason appears to be following that same approach.

NBA insider Kevin O'Connor reported that James is deliberately delaying his decision because he wants to see if any of the teams pursuing him can first acquire either Anthony Davis or Kyrie Irving before he agrees to sign.

“Sources believe LeBron James is slow-playing his decision to see if any of his suitors can find a way to land Anthony Davis or Kyrie Irving. The problem is that AD and Kyrie don't seem available for trade,” O'Connor wrote on X.

According to the report, the biggest obstacle isn't a shortage of interested teams but the difficulty of actually acquiring either superstar. The Mavericks are not actively exploring trades involving the veteran guard. Teams that have inquired about his availability have reportedly been informed that he is not on the market.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks are entering a new era with Masai Ujiri as team president and Dusty May as head coach. Ujiri has expressed enthusiasm about pairing Irving with Cooper Flagg, describing Irving as a "championship player."

The Washington Wizards are also not interested in trading AD. With both Davis and Irving appearing unlikely to be moved in the near future, LeBron may eventually have to move forward without either player.
