Real Madrid have been warned that Manchester City won’t sell Rodri on the cheap, even if he’s in the final year of his deal at the Etihad.
Marca report comments from journalist David Sánchez on the subject today following an appearance on La Tribu on Radio Marca.
Real Madrid back in the mix
Reports are strongly linking the Manchester City midfielder with a move to Real Madrid this summer following his success at the World Cup.
Alongside playing a key role in Spain’s World Cup success, the 30-year-old was named Player of the Tournament. The midfielder appears to be back at the top of his game after his serious knee injury.
And that has revived the links to Real Madrid, who are long-term admirers. They’re busy rebuilding their midfield this summer. The plan is for a fresh start in Jose Mourinho’s second stint in charge.
Sport Witness have covered the growing reports in Spain already. A report yesterday explained how Barcelona should be targeting the Manchester City man, just to keep him out of Real Madrid’s hands.
Now Real Madrid have been warned against jumping the gun, because Manchester City won’t let their man go cheaply.
“He has one year left on his contract with City. They are of the most financially powerful teams in the world,” explained Sánchez.
“They aren’t going to lose €200m just because of his age or because he only has a year left on his deal.”
Rodri wants Manchester City exit
There is one factor that could work in Madrid’s favour, though. Rodri wants the move, and a return to Spain.
“Rodri is keen to leave England, return to Spain, and, if possible, play in his home city, Madrid,” he insisted. That desire, though, doesn’t mean he’ll simply walk away from the Etihad.
“He isn’t going to simply walk away from the offer the English club is making him to renew his contract,” the journalist added. Sánchez, though, insists that prestige alone will not be enough to get any deal over the line.
“If Rodri signs for Real Madrid, it won’t be for the glory the club offers him,” he concluded.
“It will happen because City agrees to sell him for a huge fee. And because the salary put on the table matches the calibre and quality of a Ballon d’Or winner and world champion.”
