Illya Zabarnyi’s future has once again come up this summer in connection with Liverpool FC, with DaveOCKOP.com previously bringing you exclusive news on the potential target earlier in the window.

Manager Andoni Iraola has already admitted that defensive depth is “thin” in spite of Jeremy Jacquet’s £60 million move to the club this summer, along with Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni getting ever closer to full fitness.

Virgil van Dijk turned 35 earlier this month and cannot keep recording leading minutes in matches played across Europe like he did last season. Leoni and Jacquet will head into the 2026/27 season having not played a single Premier League game in their career – which could be seen as a gamble by pessimistic assessments.

DaveOCKOP.com brought you the news in early June that Liverpool were offered the chance to explore a deal for the Paris Saint-Germain during their talks with Curtis Jones’ representatives in contract talks.

The key point is that Liverpool was not necessarily chasing Zabarnyi first but were instead presented with the opportunity through intermediaries.

This week, various reports have once again discussed the prospect of the 23-year-old at the Anfield club and that he’s been offered – confirming our exclusive news from a month earlier

At PSG last season, Zabarnyi was a regular feature in Ligue 1, starting 26 of his 28 appearances in the French topflight.

However, his Champions League involvement painted a different picture.

Zabarnyi featured in just seven matches in the competition. Despite being part of PSG’s Champions League-winning squad, he had a limited role in the knockout rounds.

He did not start a single knockout match and was only used briefly in the final. He was simply not trusted by manager Luis Enrique at the business end of the season.

Of course, Andoni Iraola knows him from their time at Bournemouth during the 2024/25 season. It remains to be seen if that connection could pay dividends should Liverpool decide to make a move for the Ukrainian international.
