Arsenal are expected to fail in signing Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United for a reported £70million offer. The Brazil international emerged as a firm target for Mikel Arteta's side earlier this summer and it finally looks as though they will be formalising their pursuit after weeks of contact through intermediaries.
Having sold Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, the Magpies made their stance clear that Guimaraes was not for sale. With the Brazil international having communicated his desire to leave, their resolution looked set to be tested by an opening offer from Emirates Stadium, but a clear response has already emerged
football.london's sister-title in the north-east, ChronicleLive, have described selling Guimaraes for £70m as a 'non-starter'. Their report also states that Newcastle are supposedly growing fed up of Arsenal's approach with there still no direct contact between the two.
The Gunners seemingly have a clear valuation of the 28-year-old, who sees his current contract expire in the summer of 2028, and will not overpay despite their desire to sign the midfielder.

Arteta and Co. had no plans of reaching what Aston Villa wanted for Morgan Rogers and were subsequently beaten to his signing by Chelsea, who agreed to pay £117m. football.london understands that the north Londoners valued Rogers in the region of £80m.
In a market where Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United have overpaid for signings, it seems as though Arsenal have no intention of doing that with the £34m deal for Christos Tzolis proving so.
He officially joined from Club Brugge on Thursday to become Arsenal's third summer signing following permanent deals for Piero Hincapie and Illian Meslier.
Departures have also been sanctioned with Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior joining Besiktas and Porto respectively. The latter spent last season on loan in Portugal while Trossard was free to move for a good fee.
Arguably all of the £15.3m gained from selling the Belgian has gone on Tzolis but funds remain for more signings and not just in midfield.
A second attacking addition is a real possibility with Bradley Barcola and Yan Diomande potential options. Long-term target Nico Williams has also emerged on Arsenal's radar again.

However, any available cash could end up going on a defender following confirmation that William Saliba would missing an extended period because of a back injury. He does, however, not need surgery to fix the problem.
Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa and free agent John Stones have emerged as potential options but Arteta has Jurrien Timber and Cristhian Mosquera who can play the role.
