Arsenal have been credited with an interest in RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande as they look to strengthen their options on the left flank.
Arsenal have already made contact with his representatives to explore a potential move.
German outlet Bild now claim Arsenal are prepared to pay €100 million (£85m) for the Ivory Coast international.
Leipzig are said to have rejected a similar offer from Liverpool, suggesting they are unlikely to accept Arsenal’s if it materialises.
Arsenal likely to fail in pursuit of Diomande
Diomande, described as ‘dynamic‘ by former Leipzig head coach Ole Werner, impressed last season, earning the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award.
Among wingers in Europe’s top seven leagues last term, he ranked above the 85th percentile for non-penalty goal involvements, progressive carries, successful dribbles, assists and key passes.
However, Arsenal are unlikely to meet Leipzig’s asking price for the Ivorian forward, which is said to be at least €120m (£102m).
Arsenal were reluctant to overpay for Morgan Rogers, allowing Chelsea to complete the deal, suggesting they may also be reluctant to pay a hefty fee for Diomande, who has yet to prove himself in the Premier League.
Another obstacle for the north London side is Diomande’s preference for a move to Paris Saint-Germain. His agents are now reportedly putting pressure on the French giants to make a formal approach.
With a deal for Diomande looking increasingly unlikely, Arsenal are expected to turn their attention to other left-wing targets.
The Gunners have also reportedly discussed the possibility of signing Barcelona’s Ferran Torres.
Although naturally a striker, the Spain international can play anywhere across the frontline. He offers a consistent goalscoring threat, but his finishing can be inconsistent.
