NBA insider Shams Charania says LeBron James is not waiting for another major move, with five teams already set as his leading options.
LeBron James is reportedly not waiting for another major transaction before making his free-agency decision.
ESPN insider Shams Charania dismissed suggestions that James and his agent, Rich Paul, are delaying the process until Anthony Davis or another prominent player changes teams.
"Sources tell me LeBron James, his agent Rich Paul, they're not waiting for another domino right now," Charania said on the Pat McAfee show.
"They're not waiting for Anthony Davis to get traded. Cleveland, Miami, Golden State, Philadelphia, Minnesota – they're set. Those are the teams.
"This is going to be based on happiness, a chance to contend for a championship, and joining a culture."
LeBron taking independent approach to free agency
James informed the Los Angeles Lakers on June 30 that he would not return for the 2026-27 season, bringing his eight-year spell with the franchise to an end.
Since entering free agency, the 41-year-old has drawn interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Owners, front-office executives, and players from interested teams have reportedly communicated their pitches through Rich Paul, with some even sending voice messages that were passed along to James.
Charania previously reported that James' decision would not be financially driven. Instead, the four-time NBA champion is expected to prioritize happiness, organizational culture, and the opportunity to compete for another title.
