Fabrizio Romano explains advanced talks, transfer hijack and personal terms for supposed £34m attacking target

Liverpool fans have been told to pay little attention to reports linking them with a move to sign 24-year-old AS Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche.

Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas reported on X that Liverpool have made “an initial approach” to Monaco for Akliouche, with the Reds checking on the availability of the 24-year-old winger.

Then, via Sky Sports‘ website, he stated: “Akliouche is a prime target for Paris Saint-Germain, who have made several offers for him – none of which have been acceptable to Monaco so far. The most recent offer from the Ligue 1 champions is believed to be in the region of £34m (€40m).

“Andoni Iraola wants a winger, mainly for one very good reason. Mohamed Salah has not been replaced yet. This approach for Akliouche is the first sign of Liverpool finally moving on from the Egyptian King.”

Fabrizio Romano clarifies Maghnes Akliouche to Liverpool rumours

Reporting on Wednesday, Fabrizio Romano told Liverpool fans that his info suggests that Akliouche is in advanced talks with PSG while Liverpool are focused on signing Bradley Barcola instead.

Romano said: “Many questions on Maghnes Akliouche and Liverpool but at the moment I maintain my information. Akliouche is in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain. There is an agreement on personal terms and talks underway between Monaco and PSG.

“If there is a hijack, I will let you know, but at the moment the feeling is PSG are leading the race. As I will let you know on Barcola because I maintain my position. Remember what I keep telling you about Barcola/Liverpool.”

If it’s a choice, Barcola over Akliouche is an easy choice

Liverpool need a top winger this summer to replace Mohamed Salah, and if it’s a straight choice between Barcola and Akliouche, it’s not a difficult choice.

Still only 23, there is a lot of room for Barcola to evolve into the best winger in the world. Moving to the Premier League will be a major challenge, but his pace, 1v1 ability and knack for finding himself in 1-on-1 situations with the goalkeeper bode really well for Liverpool.

Of course, it will not be an easy deal to complete, but Liverpool are working on getting it done.
