From leadership overhauls and coaching shake-ups to a flurry of transfer activity, go inside the aggressive restructuring designed to transform the Toffees’ youth development and long-term future.
Everton have been making a number of different moves at youth level, whether that be through staff changes, player signings or player exits.
There has been a lot going on behind the scenes with the Toffees, so I thought it would be good to get everything in one place, considering all the different reports coming out about the academy.
Many will be disappointed that there isn't this much activity at senior level, but at least something is happening internally. Plans are in place to sort the academy from top to bottom, and it's clear they are making it a priority at the moment.
Players have joined, players have left, and the whole academy has been restructured, which has seen a number of coaches come and go.
It's unlikely that Everton supporters will see any evidence of the changes made in the near future. Maybe we will see young talent emerging at senior level fairly soon, but the true results are going to come in the long term.
The academy won't start suddenly winning loads of football matches, as that isn't and shouldn't be the aim of an academy side. Firstly, we'll start with the changes behind the scenes.
Dean Rastrick took a role as Everton's new Academy Director last month after previously being the Director of Development at Norwich City.
Carl Darlington was appointed as Head of Academy Coach Development after previously being in a Head of Academy Coaching role.
Dave Hughes is one of the new arrivals who has joined the club in a new role as Head of Academy Player Development, while also leading the under-21s, but not directly as a head coach. He will be assisted with the under-21s by another new appointment, Tom Curtis, who joins as Professional Development Phase Senior Coach and Head of Training.
Ben Dickson received an internal promotion to Head of Academy Recruitment, while Nick Chadwick is now PDP Senior Coach and Loans Programme Manager.
Former Portsmouth winger Matthew Taylor has also joined the club as under-18s head coach and will be assisted by Tom Kearney.
In terms of player exits at academy level, Jacob Beaumont-Clark, Kingsford Boakye, Roman Dixon, Bradley Moonan, Francis Okoronkwo, Tyler Onyango and Reece Welch have all departed the club from the U21s.
At U18 level, Demi Akarakiri, Melvin Matos and Rocco Lambert have been offered new contracts. Akarakiri left the club to join Serie A side Cagliari, Lambert put pen to paper on a new deal, and no news has emerged about Melvin Matos.
Goodness Gospel-Eze, Louis Poland, Charlie Stewart and Kean Wren all left the club following the expiration of their contracts.
We’ve also seen Coby Ebere leave the club to join Serbian side FK Cukaricki on a three-year deal. Ebere had one year remaining on his contract,
Isaac Heath has also left the club on a permanent basis, joining Cambridge United.
Everton have been active in terms of trying to recruit for their academy.
Everton have also reportedly agreed a deal to sign Arthur Barratt from Chelsea, another 16-year-old who left Stamford Bridge at the end of his contract.
Everton also have two players on trial at the moment. Jamel Beggs and Ollie Dewsbury were both involved for the U21s during the week. Beggs has left Tottenham and is now a free agent, while Dewsbury is on trial from Bristol Rovers. Everton also confirmed the signing of Zach Lee on a deal until next summer. The 19-year-old was on trial towards the end of the 2026/2027 season, and has previously been with Barrow and Wigan Athletic.
