Not everyone backstage at WWE was on board with just how much the New York Knicks took over Saturday Night’s Main Event, even though the crowd loved it.
According to a report from WrestleVotes, WWE’s top decision-makers were reportedly not very enthusiastic about how deeply the Knicks were woven into the show.
Since the event took place at Madison Square Garden right after the Knicks won the NBA Championship, WWE leaned into celebrating New York basketball for the hometown crowd.
Still, some people within WWE felt the presentation went further than it really needed to, especially since Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns were featured heavily throughout the broadcast and even got involved in on-screen storylines.
Brunson physically stepped in when Seth Rollins attacked Roman Reigns, helping create the distraction that let Reigns fight back. While that moment landed well with the live crowd, the backstage reaction was reportedly not that satisfactory.
One source even suggested that some staff members are not big sports fans, which may explain why the heavy NBA crossover did not sit well with everyone working the show.
