Anthony Davis’ future with the Wizards is under the spotlight after the latest contract update, while there has been a major development in the NBA’s investigation into Kawhi Leonard.

WIZARDS HESITATE OVER $275M MAX DEAL
Anthony Davis’ future in Washington has been thrown into doubt, with the Wizards reportedly unwilling to offer the four-time All-NBA First Team selection the four-year, $275 million (AUD$394 million) maximum extension he is seeking.
According to Brett Siegel, Washington remains keen to keep Davis long term but has no intention of offering him a full max deal, setting the stage for crucial contract negotiations when he becomes extension eligible on August 6.
Should the two sides fail to find common ground, speculation around Davis’ future is expected to intensify.

The veteran big man has already been linked with a blockbuster move to the Golden State Warriors, where he could reunite with former championship teammate LeBron James if the Warriors are able to land the four-time MVP.
Reports suggest Davis would be willing to accept less money from a genuine contender if it improved his chances of capturing a second NBA championship.
Despite the growing speculation, ESPN’s Shams Charania told The Pat McAfee Show that a trade remains unlikely for now, with Washington placing a significant asking price on its franchise star.
According to Charania, the Wizards are seeking multiple first-round draft picks and pick swaps in any deal, a package that would require a team such as Golden State to mortgage a significant portion of its future.

LEAGUE REVIEWING FINDINGS AFTER PROBE CONCLUDES
There has been a significant update in the NBA’s investigation into Kawhi Leonard and Aspirations, with The Athletic’s Mike Vorkunov reporting the inquiry has now concluded.
“It’s another waiting game,” Vorkunov said.
“The investigation, I think, is over now.
“The NBA is kind of sifting through what the law firm they hired has found, whether there’s a punishment or not that it wants to levy.”
While there is still no timetable for any potential fines or suspensions, Vorkunov believes Leonard’s long-rumoured trade to the Toronto Raptors is still expected to go ahead.
The proposed move was previously delayed after the NBA warned Toronto it would inherit any consequences stemming from the investigation should it complete a deal for the superstar forward.
For now, all eyes remain on the league office, with Commissioner Adam Silver previously stating he expected the investigation to be completed before the start of the 2026-27 season.
