Shams Charania of ESPN doubled down on this notion upon appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, claiming that all prominent teams in the hunt for the 41-year-old superstar are financially restricted in cap space.
"For the most part, some of these teams only have veteran minimum or exception deals to offer, whether it's something called a biannual exception that's somewhere around $5 million. The minimum for LeBron James would be around $4 million. Whether you're looking at Cleveland, Golden State, Minnesota, or Philadelphia, those are the ranges of contracts they have available," the NBA insider argued.
"You're looking at veteran minimums, exceptions, biannual exceptions, and potentially part of the mid-level exception if you have the taxpayer exception. All of these teams are high-spending teams. They're going to be in the tax, spending top dollar to field competitive rosters because they're so top-heavy in terms of salary. ... That's the range. Wherever LeBron James goes, it's not going to be much of a financial conversation."

All of LeBron James' well-known suitors from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, and Minnesota Timberwolves are already managing staggering player payrolls.
