Arsenal 'willing' to pay mega fee to sign £85m-rated future superstar as Man Utd 'plan bid' for …

Premier League transfer news latest including stories involving Arsenal, Man United, Chelsea and more

The 2026 summer transfer window is now in full swing, with Premier League sides going wild in the aisles and signing a host of new players. Some of the eye-catching deals already done include Elliot Anderson’s blockbuster move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City, and Sandro Tonali’s equally headline-grabbing switch from Newcastle to Spurs.

Elsewhere, Chelsea slammed down £117m to take Morgan Rogers away from Aston Villa, with Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho going the other way in a loan with obligation-to-buy deal. Manchester United have been busy too, rebuilding their midfield by signing both Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Villa’s Youri Tielemans for a combined fee of £86m.

Today’s rumours round-up begins at the Etihad Stadium, where new Man City boss Enzo Maresca is said to be eyeing up a bold double transfer raid for two of his former Chelsea stars: Enzo Fernandez and Malo Gusto. Caught Offside claim that both players are “firmly in Man City’s plans” and “contact could accelerate very soon”.

It’s said that should Rodri move on, perhaps to Real Madrid, City could then significantly up their interest in Fernandez who they deem to be an ideal replacement. Maresca is also said to be a keen admirer of Gusto from his time at Stamford Bridge, but could find it hard to sign him with the Blues said to be unwilling to sell.

The 3AM Verdict: Aftereverything that went on with Fernandez last season - from his appalling behaviour on the Argentina team bus to that interview - it would be hard to blame Chelsea for wanting rid of him. Still, given that they paid £107m to sign him back in 2023, that’s easier said than done. We have a feeling he may end up staying at the club, purely because his asking price will be beyond the reach of most potential suitors.

Arsenal ‘willing’ to pay huge Diomande fee

Over to the Emirates Stadium next, where Arsenal are gearing up to defend their Premier League title. They’re after options in attack, after missing out on Rogers to Chelsea, and reports from Germany - via Sport Witness - claim that the Gunners are now ready to pay a mega fee to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, amid reports that PSG are getting cold feet after baulking at the player’s asking price.

Liverpool have already seen a bid in the region of £85m knocked back, and are said to be waiting in the wings to move again. Arsenal, along with Man City, are now said to be ready to make their move. It’s believed that the Ivory Coast international is set on joining PSG, but with the Champions League winners seemingly having second thoughts, a Premier League move could be back on the cards.

The 3AM Verdict: Arsenal’s silence in this window has been a little eerie - even ominous, perhaps. We have the feeling they’re about to unleash their full spending power, and Diomande would be a terrific signing. He’d give them some serious quality on the left wing, and beating Liverpool to a key transfer target would be a serious statement of intent.

Man United ‘planning bid’ for Kone

Last up, things are getting busy at Old Trafford, where Man United are one step away from completing their midfield rebuild. The aforementioned acquisitions of Santos and Tielemans are done, but a more defensively-minded option is still required, and Roma star Manu Kone looks like he could be their top choice.

Team Talk claim the Red Devils have already agreed terms with the France international, and are poised to make a bid. Roma are said to be holding out for £50m, but United will test their resolve with an opening bid closer to £40m. Atletico Madrid and Chelsea are also thought to be in the mix.

The 3AM Verdict: With Chelsea hotly tipped to sign a new midfielder before the start of the new season, United should really get their skates on here. Kone would be an ideal addition to their midfield, bringing the solidity that the now departed Casemiro offered at his best. Rather than quibbling over a few million, the Red Devils should get the deal done now.
