Freddie Woodman has signed a new Liverpool contract which will expire in 2029 after his previous deal was set to expire on 1 July 2027.
Liverpool announced on Thursday that the goalkeeper had put pen to paper on a new deal to extend his stay on Merseyside after impressing in his first season at the club despite the club’s failures of the club in 2025/26.
While Woodman remains third choice behind Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili, the former Preston North End shot-stopper impressed with his attitude and performances.
Although his opportunities were very limited, he shone in his three games for the Reds. Woodman made his debut in the Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace, before making his Premier League debut off the bench against Everton in the 2-1 result.
“I’m absolutely delighted, to be honest,” Woodman told Liverpoolfc.com as part of the club’s official announcement.
He added: “Off the back of last season, personally it was amazing for me and then to come back in pre-season and there be an offer for me from the club to stay here longer, I was made up.
“I’m just so happy that I could re-sign here and be a part of this amazing club.
“[I feel] pride and so many emotions, really. Last season I came in and did the role I was doing and then when I got the opportunity to play, especially the Palace game, it just felt like a real connection to the fans and just a massive understanding of them.
“Now I get the chance to stay here for longer and to be a part of it again is unbelievable, and me and my family are delighted.”
Capology reports that his previous contract was worth around £31,000 per week, with a raise likely included in his new deal although he will not be amongst the club’s better-paid stars given his status within the goalkeeping hierarchy.
Overall, his Liverpool contract is still worth around £1.3m per year, but he will be hoping for more minutes next season. With Alisson’s injury history rather tetchy, he may get more chances if Andoni Iraola takes a proactive approach to resting the Brazilian rather than waiting for the inevitable injuries.
