Bruno Guimaraes## Bruno Guimaraes continues to be strongly linked with a move to Arsenal and Newcastle United have now made a big midfield transfer decision of their own
06:58, 24 Jul 2026
Newcastle have agreed to sign midfielder Aladji Bamba from AS Monaco with Arsenal set to formalise their pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes with an opening offer. Christos Tzolis, Illan Meslier and Piero Hincapie have already joined the Gunners with Guimaraes being targeted as their fourth incoming.
The 28-year-old sees his current contract expire in 2028 and he has informed the Magpies of his desire to leave after a disappointing domestic finish. That has also resulted in Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali moving on which has allowed Newcastle to reinvest significantly.
Ivory Coast winger Bazoumana Toure has already signed and defensive midfielder Bamba is set to join him and a few others as a new signing at St James' Park. Given his favoured role, suggestions have been made that he could be the potential replacement for Guimaraes.
With all of that being said, football.london has taken a look at the latest updates surrounding Guimaraes' future and other deals that could impact Arsenal's pursuit.

Guimaraes update
Arsenal are set to submit a £70million offer to Newcastle United for Bruno Guimaraes, according to BBC Sport.
Their report states that talks have accelerated in recent days and while he is a key target for the Premier League champions, they are not keen on overpaying in an inflated market.
Newcastle's captain has made clear his desire to move on but it remains to be seen if Arsenal will be willing to part ways with a fee that his current club want.
football.london says: Arsenal's reluctance to pay over market price is understandable but that seems highly unlikely given what has happened this summer.
Ultimately, Newcastle are not massively under financial pressure to sell and given what they have already lost, will be desperate to keep their captain for at least another season.
However, they will be wanting to receive a fee if he does depart within the next 12 months with his contract expiring in 2028.
Newcastle 'agree' midfielder deal
Newcastle reaching a £34m agreement with Monaco to sign Aladji Bamba looked to be a boost for Arsenal and their hopes of signing Guimaraes
The 20-year-old is set to finalise his move later this week. I Paper journalist Mark Douglas has stated that his arrival is not linked to the Guimaraes speculation. A new defensive midfielder was always wanted at St James' Park this summer.
football.london says: With Sandro Tonali having already departed, Bamba will most likely replace him in Newcastle's midfield with new signing Sean Steur also on hand to help.
While the two deals look to be separate, Newcastle at least having options through the door could soften their stance on letting Guimaraes depart.
However, Arsenal will still more than likely have to pay a premium to bring the Brazil international to Emirates Stadium.
