The Hartberg football team, which plays in the Austrian top division, has signed Hungarian national team goalkeeper Ármin Pécsi on a one-year loan from Liverpool in England.
“I am really happy to be here at TSV Hartberg now. The club has a clear strategy for developing young players while achieving success—that is exactly what convinced me from the very beginning. I felt their trust right from our first discussions, hence I am glad to be here. I cannot wait to work hard every day and do my part to help us achieve our shared goals,” said the 21-year-old goalkeeper on the Austrian club’s website.
Head coach Markus Schopp said that
one of Europe’s greatest goalkeeping talents” has joined the team.
He believes they have acquired the goalkeeper they wanted, one who fits the club’s profile perfectly.

Pécsi signed with Liverpool last summer, where he played for the U21 team; he was on the bench five times for the first team—which includes Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez—but did not take the field. “When Ármin Pécsi signed with Liverpool last year, we worked with the club to identify the leagues that would be ideal for him in the 2026–27 season,” said Mátyás Esterházy, the Hungarian athlete’s manager.
“The Austrian Bundesliga, along with two or three other top leagues, ranked very high on that list.
And after Hartberg completed a major transfer at the regional level by selling their goalkeeper, Ármin was the top choice to replace him. I am confident that, with excellent coaching, he can improve tremendously next season.”
Mátyás Esterházy explained that over the past year, physical conditioning has been one of the most important areas of focus for Pécsi, and he hopes this will continue at his new club; thanks to the playing time he will receive, his match experience will also continue to grow. He added that Hartberg plays a style in which the goalkeeper’s skills—specifically his ability to handle the ball with his feet—can truly shine, meaning he will be playing for a team that best suits his style and abilities.
Hartberg, which finished sixth in the Austrian top flight last season, will kick off the new season this coming Saturday as the visiting team against Red Bull Salzburg—last season’s bronze medalist and the club where Hungarian footballer Damir Redzic currently plays.
