Dennis Rodman, the NBA legend, recently sat down with Dwight Howard during the Fanatics Fest for an episode of his podcast, ‘Above the Rim,’ where he spoke about several aspects of the Knicks’ championship run.
“Y’all love the Knicks now, right? Love the Knicks after fifty f—king three years, what the f–k? S–t, man, took you guys a long damn time, huh?” said Rodman initially as he sounded like no one supported the Knicks until they were on track to win.
“Come on, guys. You got to give praise to San Antonio. They’re a great young team. You got to give praise to them, right? They’re a great young team. They are.”
“It’s so easy to play the game today,” he later added.
Subsequently, he also addressed the rampage of celebrations that followed after the Knicks ended their 53-year drought.
Rodman was not surprised to see the Knicks’ fans celebrate the way they did, and said such celebrations have existed since before the 90s, as he himself often had to ask the public to celebrate with dignity during his career.
“Say like the New York Knicks, okay, and you guys gave like a big celebration on the parade, something like that,” Rodman said as he spoke to the crowd in New York.
“Oh, you guys are so happy. You’re so f—ing happy. Okay, great. That’s just like us in Chicago. We were in that season right there. It was just like that every game on the road, at home, playoffs, everywhere. It was like that every game.”
“So, we were so used to it. So, it’s like it wasn’t that difficult once we got used to, you know, all the fanatic stuff,” Rodman added.
But Rodman seemed to be very amused with the incident involving a Spurs fan almost single-handedly fighting with the Knicks’ mob of supporters during the 2026 NBA Finals.
“Did you see that guy with the San Antonio-Dennis Rodman jersey out there trying to kick people’s a–? Did anybody see that? Did you see that? Look it up, man. This one guy went out there with a Dennis Rodman number 10 jersey out there whooping everybody’s a–. Didn’t you see that?”

“I said, whoa, it had to be my name on the damn thing, you know. It had to be my name. Could it be David Robinson or Tim Duncan? No.” Rodman concluded.

I am not surprised to hear this from Rodman, considering his eccentric personality and the bias that comes with having played for the team that lost in the NBA Finals.
Moreover, the five-time NBA champion spent most of his career in the Eastern Conference with the Pistons and the Bulls, and both teams shared an intense rivalry with the Knicks at the time.
Dennis Rodman’s assessment of the Knicks’ championship run seems to be based more on individual bias than on basketball analysis. Of course, he will not give the Knicks their flowers.
New York’s success ultimately speaks louder than outside narratives, so it is up to fans to determine whether Rodman’s remarks represent objective insight or lingering resentment from a fierce NBA rivalry. Let us know what you think in the comments section.
