Man City are one of the teams waiting in the wings if Paris Saint-Germain fail to reach an agreement with RB Leipzig for Yan Diomande, according to reports in the German media.
Tabloid Bild claim that Enzo Maresca’s side have “signalled” that they are willing to splash out €100m (£85m) on the teenager, along with Liverpool, Arsenal and Real Madrid.
Diomande has made a move to PSG his top priority, but his agents Roc Nation are reportedly putting pressure on them to table an offer.
So far, the European champions have not made an official approach, with Leipzig having made it clear that they won’t accept a fee below €120m (£102m).
Diomande has been described as “fearless” by pundits
The forward impressed against Germany when playing for the Ivory Coast at the World Cup. Speaking on ITV, pundit Gary Neville said he had the beating of Joshua Kimmich:
“He’s one of the most experienced right-backs in the world, and he’s toiling in this first half. He looks afraid of [Yan Diomande]. He is, and look, he’s a 19-year-old kid. They’ve had 56 per cent of their attacks down that side, which is massive.”
“I’ve been there as an ageing right-back when you’ve got a young kid who’s fearless, and it’s not pleasant.”
Could Man City hijack PSG’s move for the winger?
Bild‘s story does feel like it has been published to put pressure on PSG. Leipzig and the player’s representatives appear to be getting impatient about how long it has taken them to make a formal bid.
There is NO indication at the moment that Diomande is open to other clubs despite this report, and it may simply be the case that City’s name is being used to accelerate negotiations between Leipzig and PSG.
Of course, there is always a chance that Diomande loses patience, which could allow other teams back into the race, but we are not at that point yet.
