“It’s not feasible” – Everton offered future hint as director confirms failed transfer attempt

Everton

Everton fans may have just been handed a hint of Idrissa Gana Gueye’s future, with one of his suitors insisting a deal is impossible.

Le Petit Lillois report comments from Le Havre director of football Demba Ba regarding the Everton favourite today.

Everton future uncertain

Idrissa Gana Gueye is currently a free agent, with his contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium expiring at the beginning of July.

Back in June, Everton issues a statement insisting that “discussions with the 36-year-old’s representatives were underway regarding a potential contract extension. More than 30 days later, there has been no progress on that front.

Reports in England have made it clear that talks were put on hold while Senegal competed at the World Cup. But the Atlas Lions exited the tournament on July 1st, 23 days ago and there has been no update on his situation.

All indications are that he will be leaving Everton this summer. But neither he nor the Toffees have formally announced that as fact. Now they may have been handed a hint at what’s going on by Ba.

Ambitious Le Havre bid

He’s taken charge of Le Havre this summer and has grand ambitions. When he was at Dunkirk, for example, he tried to sign Eden Hazard. This time, it was Idrissa Gana Gueye he had hoped to attract.

“Try for another Eden Hazard-style coup? Why not. I have one in mind, but it’s not feasible: Idrissa Gueye,” he told L’Equipe. The newspaper does not make it clear why it was impossible but did confirm that Ba had a budget of €2m available for signings.

The question then, is why he has deemed Gana Gueye as unfeasible. One possible answer is that he’s not completely broken off negotiations with Everton about a renewal on Merseyside.

Or perhaps the midfielder simply wants too much, a factor which delayed negotiations with Everton last summer as well. Either way, it appears he won’t be heading to Le Havre.
