Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp threatened to resign as head coach of the Germany national team just minutes after his appointment was confirmed.
The 59-year-old was unveiled on Friday morning at the DFB Campus in Frankfurt after signing a deal that runs through the 2030 World Cup. Klopp held a press conference as he addressed the media for the first time. In an entertaining introduction, he closed the door on ever returning to Liverpool by stating he'd retire after he leaves Germany. It was also revealed that the German FA had to make multiple concessions to Red Bull in order to get the deal done.
His appointment had been highly anticipated in recent weeks following Julian Nagelsmann's departure. His predecessor stepped aside after Germany's dismal Round of 32 exit at the World Cup, where it was beaten on penalties by Paraguay.
Speaking to the media, Klopp warned he would not hesitate to walk away from the job if media and public scrutiny affected his family. "The day you don't want me anymore, I'm gone - without any severance pay," he explained.
“If you behave badly and don't leave my family in peace, I'm gone. Criticize me if something doesn’t work. I’m happy to work on it. It’s all about the job.
"I know there are other countries where national team coaches are treated even worse. I love this job, but I am always ready to call it quits if need be."

The former Liverpool boss also hinted this will be his final venture in football management, adding: "Jurgen Klopp doesn’t have a career after the national team. Ideally, this is the highlight of my career."
Klopp spent nine years at Liverpool between 2015 and 2024. During that time, he guided the Reds to a Premier League title, Champions League glory, an FA Cup and two League Cups.
With Germany, he will be tasked with overseeing a rebuild following a disappointing era, with hopes of success at UEFA Euro 2028, which will be co-hosted by England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.
In the meantime, he will take charge of his first game in September when Germany faces the Netherlands in a Nations League clash.

Despite the tight turnaround, he is confident the team will be ready when international football resumes later this year.
He concluded: "I'm far from perfect. We've got a few weeks until the first international break. I think that's enough time to get prepared."
