Liverpool are waiting for Ferran Torres to “give the OK” before making an “official move” for the Barcelona forward, according to reports in the Catalan media.
Newspaper Sport claim that Paris Saint-Germain and an unnamed Premier League club are keeping tabs on the Spanish World Cup winner’s situation.
While the Reds aren’t mentioned, it is widely assumed that the Merseysiders are the team waiting for Torres to make a decision on his future.
L’Equipe reporter Loic Tanzi has previously said that Andoni Iraola’s side are competing with PSG for the 26-year-old’s signature.
Torres is not happy with how he has been treated
Barcelona are said to be hoping to tie down the striker to a new contract. His current deal expires at the end of next season.
However, Torres has not been pleased with how Barca have been publicly pursuing Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, without even addressing his future.
In an ideal world, he would prefer to stay at the Camp Nou, but the poor treatment he has experienced means he is tempted to leave before the summer transfer window closes.
Liverpool can offer the player more minutes than PSG
While Paris Saint-Germain are managed by the man who gave Torres his debut for Spain – Luis Enrique, he would be regarded as Ousmane Dembele’s understudy up front – the position that Goncalo Ramos has recently vacated,
The forward would be given a more prominent role at Anfield, especially with Hugo Ekitike set to be available until sometime next year.
Torres’s ability to play right across the front three means that Iraola may also choose to deploy him regularly on the right flank, as well as through the middle. For now, though, the Reds are waiting patiently to see what the ex-Manchester City player decides to do.
