Enzo Maresca refuses to rule out a permanent Manchester City exit for Jack Grealish as the winger eyes a sentimental return to Everton following his impactful loan.
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has spoken out about the future of Jack Grealish, amid rumours he could return to Everton following his loan spell.
Grealish spent the 25/26 campaign on loan at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but his spell was unfortunately cut short due to injury.
The English winger remained at Finch Farm to continue his recovery, a rarity for a loan player, perhaps signalling his and Everton's intent to remain at the club.
It's no secret that Grealish loved his time at Everton, and reports have suggested that he's open to remaining with the club for the 26/27 campaign.
Everton secured the signature of Tyrique George on a permanent deal, and as it stands, with Iliman Ndiaye likely to line up on the right-hand side, the former Chelsea winger is the only left-sided option.
Grealish would plug that gap on the left, but it remains to be seen whether he's going to be playing his football at the Hill Dickinson Stadium next season.
The former Chelsea boss references his strong relationship with Grealish, and he's refused to rule out a departure.
"Jack at the moment is here. He is a Man City player. I always said, in any club I join, the players that are in the club, it is my duty to coach them. Jack at the moment is here. I have a good relationship with Jack. Since I left, we've been keeping in touch. The reason why is because he has a big heart and is a very good guy. We will see what happens."
On the other hand, Maresca hasn't ruled out Grealish staying either, but he's certainly not confirming that he wants to keep him.
A permanent move to Everton this summer does feel unlikely. The Toffees are unlikely to want to pay his full wage package, or pay a fee for a player who is coming off the back of an injury.
It certainly wouldn't be a surprise if Everton opted to sign Grealish on loan once again. The Man City man clearly loved it at the club and was playing with a smile on his face.
David Moyes loves the experience and quality he brings, and the Everton boss will have no worries that he's going to perform.
Everton need to make a decision, or get a deal one fast, though. If Grealish doesn't join the club, Everton need to enter the market for a new winger.
If a deal for Grealish drags on until the end of the transfer window, we could miss out on potential alternative winger targets.
