Jalen Brunson did not give a yes or no when asked about a White House visit. He told The New York Times that the Knicks have not discussed it.
It was a small answer with a bigger point behind it. The champions are not treating a White House trip as an automatic part of the summer, and Brunson did not pretend a decision had already been made.
New York waited 53 years for another NBA title. The parade was enormous, the City Hall ceremony was its own scene and Brunson was the Finals MVP at the center of all of it. A White House invitation would be another part of that celebration, but it would also be a choice for the players and staff.
There is no reason to rush them into a public answer. The season ended weeks ago, players are recovering, and the roster is already shifting toward a title defense.
Knicks earned the chance to choose
Championship teams have gone to the White House for decades, but no team is required to treat that tradition the same way. The Knicks can discuss it privately, decide what feels right for their group and move on without turning it into a performance.

Brunson’s answer was refreshingly plain. There was no long explanation and no attempt to speak for every teammate. He said the conversation had not happened.
Brunson is keeping it on the team’s clock
Brunson has carried himself like a captain through a championship run, so the restraint fits. He understands that a title team has plenty of voices.
Fans will have opinions. They should. The city has earned the right to enjoy every piece of a championship summer, including the debates that come with it.
The only real deadline is the one the Knicks set for themselves. They have a banner now. They do not need to sprint into every other decision that comes with it.
