Darwin Nunez is set to leave Al-Hilal this summer, with the former Liverpool striker reportedly in talks over a surprise move to Major League Soccer.
Nunez joined Al-Hilal from Liverpool for an initial £46million last August, but his spell in Saudi Arabia has failed to meet expectations.

The 27-year-old made 24 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing assists, but was removed from the club’s Saudi Pro League squad following the January arrival of Karim Benzema.
The Uruguayan has been linked with an exit ever since, and a departure is now expected. MLS side Atlanta United have reportedly opened talks over a potential deal as they look to add a high-profile striker to their squad, although negotiations are not yet at an advanced stage.
Nunez was included in Al-Hilal’s squad for their pre-season friendly against Mamelodi Sundowns, with the Saudi side recording a 2-0 victory in Austria on Friday.
Former Barcelona winger Malcom opened the scoring after just nine minutes before completing his brace in the 68th minute to secure Al-Hilal’s second win of pre-season.
Darwin Nunez was left out of Al-Hilal’s squad following the arrival of Karim Benzema. Saudi Arabian clubs are limited to registering eight foreign players, and the Uruguayan was removed from the roster after the French striker joined.
The forward had recorded six goals and four assists in 16 appearances before losing his place. His involvement with Uruguay at this summer’s World Cup marked his first competitive action since February.
Nunez previously played for Liverpool, joining the club from Benfica in 2022. He won the Premier League title with the Reds and finished his spell in England with 25 goals and 16 assists in 95 Premier League appearances.
A move to MLS is not guaranteed, and Nunez could attract further offers as he prepares to leave the Middle East, with clubs in Italy, Turkey and Argentina having been linked with him in the past.
Serie A giants Napoli made several attempts to sign the striker last summer but were unable to reach an agreement with Liverpool. The Serie A side eventually signed Rasmus Hojlund on an initial loan deal, which has since been made permanent.
