Cristian Romero looks like he has played his final game in a Tottenham shirt.
Tottenham Hotspur have been one of the busiest clubs in the summer transfer window so far, bringing in six players in Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali.
The North Londoners have already started moving on players that do not have a future under Roberto De Zerbi. The club bosses have sold many young players in Luka Vuskovic, Tynan Thompson, and Will Lankshear to help balance the books. Now, Spurs are looking to offload a key first-team player permanently.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Cristian Romero is “100% certain” to leave the club this summer. The 2026 World Cup finalist is expected to leave the Lilywhites following five rollercoaster seasons in N17.
Barcelona are one of the clubs interested in the 28-year-old. They have taken note of the centre-back’s situation. It’s not currently known, though, whether the Catalan giants would be able to pay Spurs’ demands for the central defender.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan have been mulling over a move for Cristian Romero in recent weeks. According to Italian outlet Sportitalia, Inter Milan are ahead of Barcelona in the race to sign the Tottenham skipper. It is understood that Romero is also receptive to a move to the Giuseppe Meazza.
The Argentina international still has three years left on his contract, and the North Londoners are believed to be demanding a fee in the region of €50m to part ways with him this summer. Should Inter Milan up their ante, Spurs’ valuation would pose a huge obstacle to any deal. Cristian Chivu wants to bolster his defensive unit, hoping that his club could lower Tottenham’s demands for Romero.
The Nerazzurri have had direct talks with Romero’s camp. The Italian champs are also in negotiations with Tottenham, which shows their commitment to bringing the central defender to Milan. It now very much looks like Romero has played his final game for Spurs.
Obviously, Tottenham and De Zerbi have been aware for a while that the Argentine will be leaving this summer, hence their decision to recruit Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke in June. With those two alongside Kevin Danso and Micky Van de Ven, the club are well stocked in central defence for the forthcoming 2026/27 campaign. Romero’s future lies away from White Hart Lane, and a move to Inter appears to be appealing to him.
