MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - One former Wisconsin Badger is getting his shot at the next level.
John Tonje has agreed to a two-way contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, according to ESPN, giving him a path to split time between Portland and the team’s G League affiliate.
Tonje has built momentum in the G League, where he’s been a steady scorer across two seasons in the Utah Jazz and Boston Celtics organizations.
In that span, he averaged 18.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists, showing the kind of production that can translate into a bigger opportunity.
For Portland, Tonje’s signing also carries roster significance, as the deal fills the Trail Blazers’ final two-way spot heading into the season.
