Former Wisconsin star guard John Tonje inked a two-way contract with the Portland Trail Blazers
Former Wisconsin guard John Tonje signed a two-way contract with the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday, wrapping up a productive summer with another opportunity.
Tonje, who played six games with the Boston Celtics in his rookie season, turned heads with a productive performance in the NBA Summer League. He averaged 14.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists across five games, reaching double-figures in scoring four times. ESPN was first to report the signing.
Tonje stretched the floor with his 3-point shooting and threw down a few rim-ratting finishes this summer, finding a playmaking edge reminiscent of his time with the Badgers. Proficient scoring defined his sole season at Wisconsin with 19.6 points per night and six performances of 30 points or more in 2024-25.
He was selected in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz. He was traded to Boston at the deadline, making his NBA debut in February. As a two-way player, Tonje was also a prolific scorer in the NBA G-League with 17.9 points per game.
Tonje will get a chance to build upon his scoring prowess with the Blazers' organization.
