Manchester City won’t be surprised over Real Madrid interest in Rodri, especially after his performances for Spain at the World Cup
Real Madrid are taking the wrong approach if they wish to sign Rodri from Manchester City this summer.
That’s the opinion of journalist Julio Pulido on Cadena SER. He believes that continued denials from the Spanish giants are the opposite of what they should be doing.
Manchester City star in spotlight
Reports have been linking Rodri, who is an old target for Real Madrid, with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
The midfielder appears to be back at the top of his game after an impressive World Cup campaign that not only saw him win the tournament but also be named as Player of the Tournament.
That has revived talk of a potential move to Real Madrid this summer. They’re rebuilding their team for Jose Mourinho and Rodri would slot in perfectly. The fact he is also in the final year of his deal at Manchester City is an added bonus.
However, rather than the Spanish club ramping that up, it has been the opposite. Reports in Spain have continued to play down the idea.
For example, Sport Witness covered a report yesterday explaining how a deal will not be easy, even though Rodri wants to leave England.
Real Madrid mistake
Now Pulido has had his say. He believes Real Madrid are doing the wrong thing by playing the transfer rumours down.
“What has caught my attention in recent days and hours is Real Madrid’s insistence on leaking that they do not want to sign Rodri,” he said.
“I don’t know if this is a strategy to drive down the price. A way to facilitate Manchester City negotiating Rodri’s exit, or if they genuinely aren’t considering signing the Spanish national team captain at all.
According to him, Rodri is “a piece the team needs.”
“I think he fits perfectly into the potential squad for next season. He is exactly the type of player Real Madrid has been looking for since Kroos’s departure.
“In recent hours and days, Madrid has gone to great lengths to make it publicly known that they aren’t interested in signing Rodri. Personally, I think it’s a mistake.”
