Real Madrid have reportedly seen an £85.4million bid rejected for Arsenal-linked Yan Diomande. The Gunners have made an enquiry for the RB Leipzig forward, sources have told football.london.

It is understood that Mikel Arteta's side are one of several clubs that have wanted to be kept informed of the conditions surrounding a possible deal for the Ivory Coast international. Arsenal have been knocked back in the market this summer for new wide players after losing out on England international Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for £117million.

The former Middlesbrough star joined Xabi Alonso's men despite a protracted chase by the Gunners. Arsenal fell well short of the asking price and are understood to have valued Rogers at around £80m.

The Gunners' sporting director Andrea Berta has therefore moved on to alternatives, with Bradley Barcola, Mika Godts and Kerim Alajbegovic all having been scouted by the club.

And according to German publication Bild, there are now fears in north London that a move for Diomande could lead to a bidding war. Arsenal are keen to avoid such a scenario after missing out on Rogers.

Diomande has attracted interest from several clubs, with Liverpool's approach to pay a fee in the region of £85m knocked back. A similar bid from Real Madrid has now been rejected, with Sky Sports reporting that Los Blancos' offer was for an initial fee of £76.9m, plus £8.5m in add-ons.

The player is believed to favour a move to European champions Paris Saint-Germain, but the French club has so far not met the asking price, believed to be approximately £94m.

Arsenal’s enquiry is believed to have been purely exploratory at the time and the club have not advanced from there so far during the transfer window.

Diomande only joined Leipzig a year ago from Spanish side Leganes, but he's proved to be a huge hit and the Bundesliga club want to achieve a huge profit or tie him down to a new deal. They remain hopeful he will remain at the club beyond the summer window.

"Our clear intention is that Yan Diomande will play for RB Leipzig next year," the club's managing director of sport Marcel Shafer said on the winger's future.

The 19-year-old scored 12 goals and recorded nine assists in the Bundesliga last season, helping Leipzig finish third and qualify for the UEFA Champions League, thereby strengthening their financial position. Diomande featured in all four of the Ivory Coast's matches at the World Cup, helping them reach the round of 32.
