New Man City manager Enzo Maresca has insisted he is not concerned about the ongoing wait for a verdict on the club’s alleged financial fair play breaches.
Man City were charged in February 2023 with 115 breaches of the Premier League‘s financial rules – though the actual number is reported to be around 130.
An independent commission concluded in December 2024, and yet more than three years after the charges were first brought, a verdict has yet to be publicly announced.
Man City have strongly denied all charges in the years since and continue to invest heavily in their squad, recently appointing Maresca to succeed Pep Guardiola after his 10-year tenure.
Speaking during his debut press conference, the 46-year-old was asked directly if the charges were a concern for him.
“No, no, to be honest,” Maresca replied.
Maresca, who previously served as Guardiola’s assistant, pointed to his experience at the club to explain his view, noting nothing had changed in the three years since he left.
“The only thing I can say is that three years ago, the treble season, I was here. And there were the same words about this kind of problem,” Maresca explained.
“In three years, it’s still the same, so nothing happened. I don’t have anything to say because it’s something that is there.”

Current Status (July 2026): The independent hearing concluded in December 2024, but 19 months of silence has followed. Man City strenuously deny all charges, potential punishments range from heavy fines and 60-point deductions to expulsion from the league.
“But again, the only thing I can say is that the way the organisation is working is to show how serious they are, how good they are, bringing titles and more things.”
It is of continued frustration across English football that City’s case has shown few signs of being resolved, allowing them to spend freely and without fear while other clubs have already faced punishment for financial breaches.
They are acting like a club who have nothing to worry about, and Man City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak is eager to talk about the legal battle, but insists he has to wait until the final verdict.

“Let me be as consistent as I’ve always been. Until we have a ruling, I can’t say much,” he said in June, via ESPN.
“Once we have a ruling, believe me, we’re going to have a wonderful sit-down together. And I’ll say everything I’ve wanted to say for the last three years.”
