Newcastle United face a huge summer after losing key players in Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali. Magpies head coach Eddie Howe is tasked with returning the club to European football and won't have an easy task as he looks to cling on to club captain Bruno Guimaraes.

The midfielder has long been linked with a move to Premier League champions Arsenal, but the most recent approach did nothing to sway Newcastle in their position of wanting to keep the Brazil international. The club will be desperate to avoid last year's Alexander Isak saga.

And the Magpies are making some headway with incoming moves. Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur and Ewen Jaouen are through the door at St. James' Park already, as is Aladji Bambawho, who has joined from Monaco in a deal worth up to £34m.

But with proven talent being replaced by Premier League rookies, there will be a great deal of anticipation over what the next month or so holds in the transfer market. ChronicleLive takes a look at some of the latest rumours.

Guimaraes to Chelsea truth

Chelsea are reportedly not in for Guimaraes. talkSPORT claim that the expectation from clubs in the Premier League is that he joins Arsenal, but Newcastle's stance is that he is not for sale.

It is understood that the Magpies are growing fed up of Arsenal's approach, with there still being no direct contact between the two clubs. It appears that Newcastle are therefore confident about keeping their star midfielder.

ChronicleLive says: "Guimaraes has been a fan favourite at St. James' Park and supporters will be desperate for him to stay. Newcastle have struggled to retain their top talent in recent seasons and there are now fears that Eddie Howe could be set to wave goodbye to another key player.

"Those concerns are understandable with Arsenal keen on signing the Brazil star. In positive news for Newcastle, they do have the option to extend his contract by another year, giving them some leverage."

Danilo deal considered

Newcastle and Manchester United have both reportedly expressed an interest in Botafogo midfielder Danilo.

BBC Sport report that he is considering his next move after his club received offers of about £25m from Palmeiras and Zenit St Petersburg.

It is claimed that the Magpies held an interest in Danilo earlier in the window, as one of a number of possible targets, but the club has since signed Bamba from Monaco. It is said that Botafogo are keen to sell him abroad, despite fellow Brazilian side Palmeiras currently pushing hardest to complete a deal.

ChronicleLive says: "Danilo was a solid player for Nottingham Forest; however, a horrific leg break set him back for some time, and he was never really the same when he returned to action at the City Ground. That should concern Newcastle alongside the fact he has been playing in Brazil, where the level of football is considerably lower than the Premier League."
