Liverpool’s available squad vs. Sunderland: Who can & can’t play 1st US friendly

Liverpool have a full 32-man squad for the start of their US tour, but Andoni Iraola has a reduced list of players for the first friendly against Sunderland.

The Reds travelled to Chicago at the start of the week with 31 players in tow, with young centre-back Mor Talla Ndiaye later making it 32 after his late arrival in the US.

Iraola has started double sessions in the lead-up to his first friendly match, with the team swapping their base in Chicago for Nashville for the all-Premier League affair.

With injuries and rehab to consider, Iraola has a smaller matchday squad than the 32 players currently in the US.

Who is available for Liverpool vs. Sunderland?

Goalkeepers: Mamardashvili, Woodman, Davies, Hall

Defenders: Gomez, Jacquet, Ndukwe, Ndiaye, Kerkez, Tsimikas, Frimpong, Chambers, Ramsay, Scanlon

Midfielders: Szoboszlai, Jones, Elliott, Nyoni, McConnell

Forwards: Ngumoha, Chiesa, Morrison, Wright, Abe, Koumas, Sonni-Lambie

Vitezslav Jaros, Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo, Stefan Bajcetic, and Hugo Ekitike all made the trip across the Atlantic, but none will be involved against Sunderland.

Bajcetic was able to rejoin his team-mates on the outdoor pitch this week, but a return on Saturday will be too soon, and it remains unclear whether he will play in any friendly in the US.

Liverpool also remain without their World Cup contingent, meaning none of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Florian Wirtz, Cody Gakpo, Victor Munoz, nor Alexander Isak will be involved.

Gravenberch, Wirtz and Isak are expected to report for training over the weekend, however.

With this match the first of six friendlies this summer, Iraola will be expected to make 11 changes at halftime against Sunderland.

New signing Jeremy Jacquet will get his first minutes in a red shirt, but opportunities will also be expected for several academy players.
