Birmingham City have organised a special pop-up football festival to mark the arrival of European giants FC Barcelona to the second city.
Blues are due to play the Spanish La Liga champions at St Andrew’s on Friday, July 31 but the club are keen to start the festivities early with an event in Victoria Square for fans of all ages from both clubs, bringing the matchday atmosphere into the heart of the city.
Time:
The event will run from 11am to 3pm, giving home supporters, travelling Barcelona supporters, families and the wider Birmingham community the chance to get involved in the build-up to kick-off at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park later that evening.
A club statement reads:
Birmingham City is a club on the rise, and this fixture with one of world football’s most iconic sides is a moment to be shared with the whole city, not just those inside the ground. This is the Club’s chance to start the celebrations early, invite supporters and families, and show Barcelona’s travelling support exactly what a Birmingham welcome looks like.
What’s on:
Victoria Square will play host to a series of free activities designed for supporters of any age and ability, whether or not they already hold a ticket for the game. The Square will be transformed into a pop-up football festival, featuring a panna cage – 1v1 street football skills battles – and fast feet, a reaction game to test your agility. A DJ will be on hand to keep the energy pumping and the excitement building as kick-off approaches.
