Wanderers continued their pre-season schedule with a goalless draw against Premier League Everton on their return to the Toughsheet Stadium.
Sam Dalby and Ruben Rodrigues went closest to breaking the deadlock for the Whites, while Jack Bonham made several important stops at the other end.
The starting line-up got an hour under their belts as preparations ramp up for the upcoming Championship campaign.
Steven Schumacher made three changes from the win at Oldham Athletic in midweek, with Akin Famewo, Xavier Simons and Kyliane Dong coming in for Max Conway, David Watson and Charlie Warren.
New signing Gaizka Larrazabal was not included but Marcus Forss was named on the bench again as Bolton continue to monitor the situation.
Everton named a fairly strong side featuring the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite, James Tarkowski, Dwight McNeil and Thierno Barry.
Bolton started brightly and Thierry Gale had the first sight at goal, but the winger couldn’t keep his strike down after cutting in from the left.
Rodrigues then tried his luck from the edge of the area but Mark Travers made a smart stop above his head.
The visitors grew stronger as the first half went on and Ben Davies had to make an important challenge as Barry was about to pull the trigger in the box.
Rodrigues had another chance after half an hour but couldn’t quite guide his header on target after getting on the end of Luca Stephenson’s delivery.
At the other end, Barry had Bonham beaten with a header from Dwight McNeil’s cross but it crept inches wide.
The forward then had the ball in the net after turning home Carlos Alcaraz’s cross from close range, but the offside flag came to Wanderers’ rescue.
Stephenson had Bolton’s best chance of the half after latching onto Xavier Simons’ clever pass, but the summer signing missed the target from a tight angle.
Barry thought he had opened the scoring on the stroke of half time after combining with Harrison Armstrong in the box, but Bonham made a fine save low to his right.
Everton made five changes at the break but it was Wanderers who almost broke the deadlock, with Dalby’s header forcing Tom King into a good stop above his head.
Bonham made a couple more saves in quick succession, first to stop Tyrique George’s low drive and then to push Merlin Rohl’s strike wide.
Bolton were briefly caught out by Vitali Mykolenko’s ball over the top but Beto failed to take advantage, firing wide of the post.
Rodrigues continued to cause problems, driving forward and trying to bend a shot into the bottom corner. It took a slight deflection and King took no chances, pushing it around the post.
Both sides made a raft of changes as the second half progressed and Everton nearly found a breakthrough from a set piece inside the final 10 minutes. George’s delivery was nodded back across by James Tarkowski to Michael Keane, who could only glance a header wide.
Malek Olayiwola then hit a sweet strike from outside the box but Bonham was again equal to the danger, pushing it away from Beto who was waiting for a rebound.
Forss got a shot away from in the box as Wanderers searched for a late winner, but the Finnish forward could only hit the side netting.
