Jose Mourinho has reportedly made it clear that he wants Vinicius Jr. to remain at Real Madrid amid rumours of a potential transfer to Arsenal. The Gunners have been heavily linked with signing a new forward this summer, and the Brazilian is the latest name to be mentioned on the rumour mill.

The Athletic reported on Saturday that Vinicius has emerged as a target for Arsenal this summer as they continue their plans to strengthen their forward options.

Arsenal have been linked with signing Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa all summer, until Chelsea moved ahead and completed a £117million deal for the England international.

As a result, Arsenal have been forced to look at other targets, and Vinicius is the latest name to emerge on the rumour mill.

However, it seems that at least one person in Madrid is against the idea of Vinicius leaving the club.

The Telegraph have reported that Mourinho would be against the idea of the Brazilian leaving the Santiago Bernabeu to complete a move to Arsenal.

The report claims that the Gunners are yet to open talks with Madrid but do have a genuine interest in signing Vinicius.

Mourinho, though, has reportedly informed Madrid bosses that he wants the club’s biggest stars to remain at the club this summer, and would not want the Brazil international to leave the Spanish capital to complete a move to north London.

Vinicius’ contract at Real expires next summer, and there is yet to be any sign of an extension being agreed between both parties.

As a result, a move away from the La Liga giants has been suggested in order for Madrid to avoid losing the 26-year-old on a free transfer in 12 months’ time.

Arsenal have had a relatively quiet summer transfer window so far, but have still managed to add two new signings to Mikel Arteta’s squad for their Premier League title defence.

Illan Meslier was signed by Arsenal on a free transfer following the goalkeeper’s departure from Leeds United, while a deal was completed to sign Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge in a £34million deal.
